Yomiuri cartoon contest ends

The Yomiuri Shimbun has decided to discontinue the Yomiuri International Cartoon Contest.

The decision was made following the announcement in December of the 29th contest's winners as we believe the contest has already made a significant contribution to the development of manga culture since it started in 1979.

During its history of more than a quarter century, the number of cartoon entries received totaled 289,554.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the people who took part in the contest and for your long-standing support.

The Yomiuri Shimbun will continue its efforts to develop manga culture in various other ways.
