Associate Professor Shibata conducts research in areas including medical data analysis and image recognition, applying AI technologies such as deep learning. Her research includes developing a system that uses AI for 24-hour monitoring of fetal health, as well as exploring applications of AI in the field of art.

"Generative AI, which is now widely used, operates through servers run by major IT companies," says Associate Professor Shibata when articulating the future she aspires to through her research. "This means that an internet connection is essential, and there is also a risk of information leakage. However, with 'standalone AI' that operates offline, you can use your own AI wherever you are and without being bound by company rules. It can also be used in physical AI applications, such as autonomous robots. To make this future a reality, I am currently conducting research with the aim of developing compact, high-performance standalone AI."
